[2023] Function of conservator tank in transformer

The main function of conservator tank in transformer is to maintain the oil level in the main tank of transformer by entering the expanded insulating oil into it the main tank through the pipe connected at bottom of conservator tank. It is to provide the extra space for the expansion and contraction of the transformer oil due to variation in the temperature of the winding of the transformer
function of Conservator tank of transformer

When the transformer is over-loaded is due to short circuit or other faults occurs due to which winding generates heat that result increase in the temperature of the insulating oil in main tank of the transformer. Then, the volume of insulating oil inside main tank of transformer also increases.

Hence, here used a metallic cylindrical tank called conservator tank to provide sufficient space for the expanded insulating oil. Conservator tank act as a reservoir for the expanded insulating oil. In this way conservator tank protect transformer from explosion due to expanded insulating oil.

Conclusion

Hope, you have clearly understand about the function of conservator tank in transformer and why is is important for a transformer. Make sure to leave your opinion about this post in the comment section below.
